Grab shortens grace period for ride-hailing waiting time and cancellations

SINGAPORE: The particular grace waiting time and cancellation time period for rides booked on ride-sharing system Grab will be reduced from five in order to three minutes starting from Jul 18, the organization announced on Mon (Jul 11).

Users will be immediately charged a waiting around fee of S$3 per five-minute waiting block if they keep your driver waiting for longer than three mins. A S$4 fee applies if a passenger cancels a reservation more than three moments after accepting a single.

The change may affect all trips, except for those booked under GrabExec, Get Exec6, GrabAssist and GrabAssist Plus.

“You are encouraged to book trips only when ready to make sure you have ample time to reach your pick-up point, ” Get said in an e-mail to customers upon Monday.

According to the company’s website, the waiting around fee policy has been in place since December 2016 to ensure that drivers are “properly compensated for the additional time spent waiting for passengers that have exceeded their sophistication waiting period”.

At first, Grab drivers needed to manually track the amount of time they have anxiously waited and add the particular fees when the elegance waiting period has been exceeded.

This was automated in January 2020. The company said the process was “tedious”, and added that instantly adding the charge allows it to make sure that the tracking of the waiting time can be “more accurate with regard to passengers”.

“This furthermore reduces the amount of hard work that drivers need to go through, allowing them to concentrate on getting passengers to their destinations safely, ” it said.

Passengers also receive prompts about the grace waiting around time they have still left via phone application notifications.

OTHER RIDE-HAILING PROVIDERS

Gojek users are billed a S$4 cancellation fee if they cancel five minutes after they are matched with a car owner, or if they terminate as soon as the driver arrives at their pick-up place.  

They can also be charged if they are not at the pick-up stage within five minutes of the driver swiping “I have arrived” and the driver cancels the booking.

Meanwhile, Ryde charges a S$5. 30 cancellation fee if a passenger cancels four minutes after booking a ride.

Ryde drivers may also charge the waiting time fee of S$5. thirty if the user is just not at the pick-up point four minutes following the driver presses “I’m Here” on the app, regardless of whether the vacation is completed or not.
