SINGAPORE: Two new Android anti-scam features designed to combat mobile scams will be piloted in Singapore, Google announced on Wednesday ( Oct 16 ).
Users wo n’t be able to turn off Google Play Protect during calls, and they wo n’t be able to block messages from unknown international numbers on Google Messages.
The functions may be made available for Android devices in Singapore over the coming weeks.
Preventing MESSAGES
Android users can quickly choose a feature to stop receiving SMS messages from unidentified international numbers.
” In Singapore, text/SMS is among the most common way swindlers contact victims, with more than 700 reported SMS fraud cases in the first quarter of 2024, most of which were a result of swindlers operating from overseas”, Google said.
Users of Android will be able to help this feature in the Protection and Safety options in Messages.
The Singapore Police Force and Infocomm Media Development Authority worked together to create the blocking communication feature.
