Strong port ready to accommodate larger vessels like Genting Dream, boosting coastal tourism
On Wednesday, Phuket welcomed the Genting Dream sail ship to its heavy port, marking a turning point for the island’s growth of marine tourism.
Local authorities arrived at the harbor in Muang area and conducted inspections of the ship, finding no harmful items or illnesses among the passengers, according to Phuket lieutenant governor Adul Chuthong.
The Genting Dream, with an inner quantity of 150, 695 total volume, you hold 3, 600 travellers.
Departing from Singapore, the vessel generally arrives in Thailand half a month and remains for 24 hours, Mr Adul said.
It is the first big cruise ship to set sail at the deep sea port. In the past, the ship had to use services boats to ferry passengers to and from shore and have an outlet at sea.
Its entrance at the port demonstrated that the island had the potential to accommodate larger cruises in the future thanks to its Marina Hub development strategy, according to Mr. Adul.
The boat firm has tripled since before the Covid-19 crisis, with at least 17 excursions now calling on Phuket each quarter, said Natchapong Pranit, chairman of the Regional Marine Office for the state.
He expressed trust in the Marine Department’s plans to convert the heavy port into a new boat connector, which would encourage the growth of the cruise industry.
According to Michael Goh, chairman of Resorts World Cruises, the cruise line, the company had worked with local planes for more than six months to prepare and make sure the ship’s appearance at the harbor went smoothly.
He predicted that the release of the Genting Dream would encourage the coastal tourism sector in Thailand as a whole as well as in Phuket.
” We appreciate the work done by the Marine Department and the local authorities on the journey arrival,” Mr. Goh continued.
