GE2025: Workers’ Party calls for GST exemptions, minimum wage and wealth tax in wide-ranging manifesto

The Workers ‘ Party ( WP ) in Singapore released its manifesto on Thursday ( Apr 17 ), calling for, among other things, a minimum wage, a wealth tax, and other measures.

The extensive statement had five sections: value and cost of living issues, &nbsp, &nbsp, economic development and opportunities, and issues involving inclusion and equality. &nbsp,

In the declaration titled” Working for Singapore,” the group also touched on issues of&nbsp, transparency, politics, as well as security and politics. &nbsp,

There were suggestions to rescind the Internal Security Act, overturn the office of president, and create a freedom of information act among the 125 plan ideas.

WP main Pritam Singh stated in a message to the statement that Singapore’s political structure is intended to house an opposition existence in Parliament that is loyal to the country.

He wrote,” Repeating this is by design,” A dedicated opposition exists to tell us that any Singaporean is genuinely hold a different viewpoint on the PAP. And that doesn’t constitute any wrongdoing or dishonesty.

He continued,” there still is a lot of work to be done,” for instance, to find Singaporeans who run the risk of falling into the sand and develop novel policy concepts to accommodate the aspirations of a more varied Singapore.

According to Mr. Singh, the group’s declaration is a “modest commitment” to that endeavor.

The biggest opposition group in Singapore released its manifesto days after Nomination Day and Polling Day were set to be held on April 23 and May 3, both. &nbsp,

Prior to the disintegration of the parliament, WP, which had eight MPs in the House, responded by launching its campaign slogan,” Working for Singapore.”

Then it referred to 15 guidelines that it claimed it had advocated for and which the government eventually “in some type” adopted. These included those in the areas of employment benefits, housing, medical, scams, the justice system, energy, and other needs. &nbsp,

This was viewed as a shift to “facilitate a sympathetic reception” of its manifesto, according to a social expert. &nbsp,

The WP’s declaration, which was 39 pages extended and divided into five sections, each with a few suggestions, was distributed during the previous General Election in 2020.

Included among its top recommendations was the elimination of a goods and services tax ( GST ), the introduction of a national minimum wage, and the availability of Build-to-Order apartments for singles aged 28 rather than the 35. &nbsp,
