WHAT IS BEHIND THE SHIFT ?
One factor is why the opposition is increasingly attracting prospects with credentials that are highly respected. According to Dr. Teo Kay Key, a research fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies ( IPS) Social Lab, the traditional obstacles that might have been barriers are waning.
These include perceived potential job reversals from collaborating with the criticism and a significantly lower chance of winning than a seat in the ruling group.
Dr. Teo added that prominent opposition candidates ‘ previous victories have also demonstrated that their election is achievable.  ,
If one wishes to make a political contribution to Singapore through politicians, she said, “it speaks to a maturing of the social environment where there are a number of social parties one can contemplate.”
These parties also have different viewpoints on a range of plan issues, according to the PAP, thus prospective candidates can look at their options and choose which one is best for them.
When he first appeared in public wearing the party’s orange colors, Assoc Prof Goh, who left in 2023, received inquiries from many friends asking if he was going to have problems with his employer NUS.
” What I did on my part was make sure I cleared with my head of department, and they were very encouraging,” he said.” They ( said ) that we do have folks who join the PAP and then become a candidate, and they can still remain as academics or lecturers,” he said.  ,
If the school is to be fair and equal to everyone, it doesn’t matter if you join the social circle or the ruling group.
He continued,” the moment was right, because by that point Chen Show Mao was now joining the party.”  ,
Additionally, larger and more well-established functions like WP, PSP, and SDP have largely been the only ones who have seen an increase in credentialed opposition individuals.
The likes of the WP have built a reliable reputation over the past few elections, according to Dr. Felix Tan, an independent political scientist. Even though the PSP is younger, Tan Cheng Bock’s social background has given it more credibility, he claimed. Previous PAP MP from 1980 to 2006, the latter served.
” The smaller social events have always been a problem because the individual leaders have a tendency to form shifting relationships,” he said, adding that a lack of clarity or target makes it harder to get top talent.
Larger parties essentially have “better sources, better organizational structure, better management, and better operational and communication execution,” according to Assistant Professor Elvin Ong of NUS.  ,
However, according to Singapore Management University rules don Eugene Tan, joining opposition politics has become more and more “normalized” total over the past 20 years.
He claimed that” the fear factor has vanished.” They are also winning votes, which is most important. It would be a different situation if the criticism were restricted to one or two elected seats in parliament.
He did, however, warn against the generalization that only credentialed people were choosing to join the criticism rather than the PAP.
Assoc Prof. Tan said,” These people are still more frequently identified with the PAP than the criticism. According to the facts,” the PAP also attracts more top-tier skill as well as ‘high-calibre’ talent” in terms of Pharmacy.”
In addition to other notable public and private sector names, the PAP’s possible lineup for the forthcoming election includes former Army Chief of Staff David Neo, past CEO of the Agency for Integrated Care Dinesh Vasu Dash, and former Finance Ministry director Shawn Loh, former head of the organization that oversaw the last two Costs.
