GE2025: Six new SMCs created as the EBRC lays out changes to constituencies

CHANGES IN THE WEST AND CENTRAL

The committee noted that Hong Kah North SMC has grown considerably and may continue to grow rapidly in the coming years, due to new housing developments in Tengah and Bukit Batok West. &nbsp,

” It has become too large to be as an SMC”, the commission said, adding that the Tengah lands will be absorbed into Chua Chu Kang GRC. &nbsp,

To keep Chua Chu Kang GRC as a four-MP electorate while accommodating major future population growth in Tengah, the commission recommended carving out the Bukit Gombak and Hillview estates to form the new Bukit Gombak SMC.

There will be 26, 364 citizens under this novel SMC. &nbsp,

Even with the Tengah estates being absorbed into Chua Chu Kang GRC, the remaining Hong Kah North SMC- comprising Bali Batok West estates- is” also to great and growing”, said the commission.

It recommended that the remaining electoral districts of Hong Kah North SMC, together with the opposite voting towns in Bukit Batok and Yuhua SMCs, merge with Jurong GRC to form a fresh Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC.

To keep this new district as a five-MP GRC, some electoral districts may be carved out to form a fresh Jurong Central SMC.

This SMC may include 29, 620 voters in the next vote.
