GE2025: ‘Serious problem’ if PAP needs more than two-thirds of parliament to govern properly, says Pritam Singh

SINGAPORE: Workers ‘ Party ( WP ) chief Pritam Singh said on Sunday ( Apr 27 ) that the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) needs to win more than two-thirds of parliamentary seats in an election, which indicates a” serious problem” with the robustness of the ruling party’s processes as well as Singapore’s political system.

” You will have a state that is free to address the problems of the day and the problems of tomorrow,” said Mr. Singh,” I believe that you have great people in various social systems.”

In Singapore, constitutional amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority in the House, which would mean that at least 64 of the 97 Parliamentarians would be elected in the future May 3 elections.

However, if the prime minister says “no, with 60 % of the votes, we need 90 % of the chairs,” then the party will lose ground. In fact, if that’s their status, I believe we now have a very poor PAP. Therefore, that cannot be the situation.

In response to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s rally speech on Saturday night in Chua Chu Kang, Mr. Singh claimed that electing more opposition candidates for parliament could result in losing potential politicians and weakening the PAP state. &nbsp,

Additionally, Mr. Wong argued that supporting more criticism was equivalent to taking chances with Taiwanese lives and Singapore’s future.

Mr. Singh cited the PAP’s Aljunied GRC individuals as examples of how people can serve the country after losing potential business holders.

Aljunied GRC was won by the WP that time, making it the first Group Representation Constituency to tumble into opposition arms. They did so at the cost of a PAP slate that included then-Foreign Minister George Yeo.

Mr. Yeo has continued to serve Singapore in so many different ways, Mr. Singh said on the&nbsp, outside of a haywire in Jalan Kayu SMC.

He even cited labor key Ng Chee Meng, who is currently contesting in Jalan Kayu SMC and was a part of a losing Sengkang GRC group in GE2020.

He said,” He has a heart for workers, and I’m not trying to be rude or anything. Therefore, he said,” the organization of the PAP trampoline may not prevent great people from serving the country in a variety of capacities.”

Noor Deros, a Malaysian-based Islamist preacher, was also the subject of Mr. Singh’s question. He has come under fire as a result of government ‘ calls to action against immigrants for allegedly influencing the votes by urging Singaporeans to cast ballots according to their religion.

In Facebook messages that mingled race, religion, and politicians, Mr. Noor repeatedly demanded that political parties in Singapore be involved. Additionally, he claimed to have met the Workers ‘ Party.

When asked why his group had not responded to Mr. Noor’s says sooner, Mr. Singh claimed the WP had now responded “very quickly”

Anyone can say that, according to the group’s secretary-general,” I mean, if someone really comes down and says,” I’ve got the WP MPs on my side, and I’m going to move my thoughts through them.”

” The question is, will the Workers ‘ Party MPs do it?” We won’t be. We did speak out in parliament immediately on behalf of all Singaporeans, in a multi-racial and liberal framework.

ABOUT THECDCS’S ROLE

When asked for his opinion on Community Development Councils ( CDCs ), Mr. Singh said these organizations had assisted in helping Singaporeans when they were first organized, with issues like job insecurities.

” All of these items have been transferred to various organizations, but they are still in place. Therefore, the CDC terminology needs a significant update, according to Mr. Singh.

He claimed that CDC money vouchers may be issued through various government departments, including the Finance Ministry.

He said,” I may call them MOF tickets, and that would still be a legitimate shift from the government to Singaporeans.”

When asked about the pay that mayors receive from the CDCs of five different regions, Mr. Singh declined to comment, saying it was not a matter of bitterness.

Mayors earn S$ 660, 000 ( US$ 502, 200 ) a year, according to a White Paper on ministerial salaries in 2012. Since then, the total hasn’t changed.

” The issue is that we can accomplish this, we can continue to provide the service that the CDCs provide,” he said.
