GE2025: Parties need to return to ‘core issues’ of election campaign, says Chan Chun Sing

FINAL TO CLAIM CREDIT

The rest of Mr. Chan’s People’s Action Party ( PAP ) team for Tanjong Pagar GRC, along with candidates from the Radin Mas and Queenstown single-seat wards, were present at the walkabout.

He even criticized some political parties for claiming credit for specific state initiatives while speaking to reporters.

The reasoning goes something like this: Team A has done well, and because they have done properly, they don’t need as many talented people. We may give Team B more people because they did not do as well, according to Mr. Chan.

” Then I believe fair-minded Singapore may realize that this line of argument contains a problem that is not entirely true.”

Mr. Chan continued, adding that in his more than 30 years of experience in the open support, both in the military and in politics, he has always been taught that” we must be the first to take responsibility and the last to say credit.”

He said,” I find it quite amusing to hear some of this during the discussion that demonstrates the exact opposite of this.”

He claimed that some functions sometimes claim” I contributed by not objecting” when some events do not do anything and there is a favorable outcome from a plan.

They claim that” this result is due to my contribution,” according to Mr. Chan, if there is a positive result and they certainly had said something, albeit in a different way from what was ultimately done.

He continued,” I find it a little puzzling,” adding that it has occurred both during the COVID-19 crisis and the latest global tariff position.

Mr. Chan added that some of the administration’s policies have varying justifications and facts for which the opposition has given credit.

For example, the Job Seeker Support Scheme is a type of “unemployment plan,” while the Progressive Wage Model is regarded as a “minimum income”

” I believe constructive criticism is a part of any healthy politics, and I believe Singaporeans want that,” said Mr. Chan.” We should all be polite and make an effort to avoid claiming more than is due.”

The WP claimed earlier this month that the government had afterwards “in some kind” adopted 15 policies it had advocated for during its final legislative session.
