
In the upcoming elections, the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) slate for Jalan Besar GRC will be led by Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo.
Heng Chee How, the MP for the Whampoa division since 2001, will not be a member of the team, according to Mrs. Teo, who announced this on Wednesday ( 16 ).
Past senior civil servant Shawn Loh replaces him in the four-person group. The remaining members of the PAP stone, which are Mrs Teo, Ms Denise Phua, and Dr. Wan Rizal, remain constant.
Mrs. Teo introduced the team at a press conference held in Whampoa Park, stating that Jalan Besar is a sophisticated house that needs to be rejuvenated constantly.  ,
It takes effort to fully grasp what the people want, she said. It also takes a set of abilities to be able to implement, never really conceptualizing what might be appealing from the residents ‘ aspect, but to really have the skills to implement these upgrading jobs.
The PAP team won 65.37 percent of the vote at the previous General Election in 2020, defeating the Peoples Voice ( PV ) party. Mr. Lim Tean, Mr. Leong Sze Hian, Mr. Nor Azlan Sulaiman, and Dr. Michael Fang made up the PV stone.
Along with the Reform Party and the Democratic Progressive Party, PV is one of three parties that fall under the People’s Alliance for Reform ( PAR ). The alliance may compete against Jalan Besar GRC this month, according to Mr. Lim, who is PAR’s secretary-general.
In the most recent democratic limit review, the GRC has 106, 102 voters, and the GRC has remained unchanged.
Mr. Heng, 63, made his political debut at the Hougang SMC General Election of 1997, where he lost to Low Thia Khiang, the former Workers ‘ Party leader. He joined the PAP’s Jalan Besar group in the upcoming election to enter parliament.
He has spent the past few years in different command capacities, including as the House’s deputy president from 2011 to 2015, and was appointed Top Minister of State for Defense in May 2018. He serves as the National Trades Union Congress’s lieutenant secretary-general.
