WP has held the seat since 1991, when Low Thia Khiang, the organization’s former captain, took the seat. With 61.21 percent of the vote, WP’s Dennis Tan won over Mr. Lee at the previous vote in 2020, keeping Hougang in place.  ,

Following the most recent political boundaries review, the consolidation of the existing Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC, parts of Hong Kah North SMC, and the former Jurong GRC resulted in the formation of Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC. The GRC has 142, 510 citizens.
A new Jurong Central SMC was created to keep the ratio between the classic Jurong GRC and the MP-to-voter amount.
Red Dot United, the opposition group, has announced its bid to challenge Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC.
Jurong GRC has previously been a PAP redoubt, and it received 79.29 percent of the vote in 2015 and 74.61 percent in 2020. Previous Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who left elections to run for president in 2023, was the anchor of the initiative.
