BUTTERWORTH: State-level discussions among Barisan Nasional component parties on who should contest Penang Gerakan seats in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) have been completed, says Datuk Tan Teik Cheng.
The Penang MCA chairman said the outcome of the meeting has been handed over to the Barisan leadership for them to make the final decision.
“MCA, Umno and MIC have completed negotiations about those seats and we will leave the decision for the Barisan leadership to decide on who should contest,” he told reporters after visiting the newly upgraded Sultan Abdul Halim terminal (PSAH) on Tuesday (Oct 11).
Tan said MCA and other Barisan component parties would respect whatever decision by the leadership.
In GE14, Gerakan, then under Barisan, contested four parliamentary seats in Penang and lost them all to Pakatan Harapan.
The seats are Batu Kawan, Jelutong, Bukit Bendera and Tanjung.
Gerakan also lost all 13 state seats it contested in GE14.
