PETALING JAYA: Pejuang is expected to field its women’s youth wing chief Dr Nurul Ashikin Mabahwi’s as the Gerakan Tanah Air candidate in Ampang for GE15, say sources.
Sources also said preparations were underway with volunteers being recruited for the election work in Ampang.
The 32-year-old will be making her debut in the polls if fielded.
When interviewed by The Star recently, Dr Nurul Ashikin said she wanted to contest in an area where her expertise would come into play.
“To be frank, I prefer a parliament seat with flood-prone areas or landslides so I can use my expertise and background in disaster risk resilience,” said the 32-year-old, who holds a PhD in Regional Environment Systems from Japan’s Shibaura Institute of Technology.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang had announced candidates for eight seats and will make further candidate announcements on Nov 2.
Ampang incumbent and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin will be defending her seat.
Zuraida won the seat on a Pakatan Harapan ticket in 2018 but she is now with Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
Pakatan, on the other hand, will field Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail as its candidate for Ampang.
