GE15: Health Ministry suggests separate lane and place for Covid-19 positive voters

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has suggested a separate lane and voting stations for Covid-19 positive patients to cast their votes during the 15th General Election(GE15), says Khairy Jamaluddin.

“They will have to have a separate lane and place but that is our recommendation.

“(However), the implementation depends on the Election Commission(EC),” the Health Minister told reporters at a press conference after the CRM Trial Connect 2022 conference here on Friday (Oct 14).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said on Oct 13, that individuals who were Covid-19 positive but not in critical condition would be allowed to vote in GE15.

However, he said they would have to comply with strict standard operating procedures which would be announced by the Election Commission (EC).

On another note, Khairy said he was preparing a few proposals on health for Barisan Nasional’s GE15 manifesto.

“As a Health Minister, I am preparing a few proposals and it is almost done,” he said.

He said the proposals would be submitted to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who is in charge of the GE15 manifesto.

On his GE15 seat, he said “If I knew that I wouldn’t be so worried. It depends on the leadership.”

Seremban, Alor Setar and Kuala Pilah were some of the speculated potential seats for Khairy.

Khairy had previously confirmed that he would not be contesting in Rembau, a seat he has held since 2008.

This was to make way for Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who was also the Rembau Umno division chief.

The EC is set to meet on Oct 20 to decide on the GE15 date and preparations.
