French 'religious leader' cuffed on Koh Phangan

Surat Thani, a French federal who reportedly claimed to be a leader of religion, was detained on Sunday in this southern province’s Koh Phangan and charged with overstaying his card, according to the police.

Evariste Douabou Koudoukouho, 39, was detained by commerce police in Tambon Tai after they discovered a problem about a stranger claiming to be a spiritual leader and requesting people to join the religious pursuits being held it.

Police discovered the man after he appeared in court and met the information in the issue on his passport, which had expired more than three months prior.

The man was detained at Koh Phangan place for further investigation before making a court appearance after being accused of overstaying his card.
