Before, it was believed that offenders had entered Myanmar illegally and were engaged in criminal activity.
Four Chinese nationals were detained on Saturday after illegally crossing the Thailand-Myanmar border into Myawaddy in the Mae Sot region of Tak province, according to police.
The four people, who were arrested on Friday, had engaged arrest warrants in Japan for legal and drug-related costs, said Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, inspector-general of the Royal Thai Police.
In response to growing international concern, particularly from China, about criminal action on the Myanmar side of the border, police and local officials have increased their efforts to police normal programs and bridges along the Thailand-Myanmar borders.
The Chinese suspects entered a motel on January 31 after checking into a vehicle in Mae Sot, according to police. They checked out on Feb 1, took a car to the Rim Moei Market, near the 1st Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, and walked round like other travellers before disappearing.
Officers discovered a Burmese regional crossing the bridge at 11 a.m. from Myawaddy to Thailand. The specific returned to Myanmar without going through Thai customs and picked up the bag of the Chinese guys from the hotel.
Officials determined that the Chinese people had illegally crossed the border and were likely a part of a call center fraud group targeting Chinese people.
Authorities contacted the Japanese Embassy, who confirmed that the four had many arrest permits for drug-related offenses in Japan. When the people crossed again into Thailand on Friday, they were soon arrested, and their visitor visa were revoked, Pol Gen Thatchai said.
The defendants are being held at Mae Sot Immigration and are anticipated to be moved to the Bangkok Immigration Detention Center for constitutional trials before being deported to Japan.
