Former MP and lawyer Alvin Yeo dies, aged 60, after battle with cancer

SINGAPORE: Former Member of Parliament Alvin Yeo offers died after combating cancer. He had been 60.

Mr Yeo was first elected in 06\ as MP associated with Hong Kah GRC. He was re-elected in 2011 as part of Chua Chu Kang GRC before retiring from politics in 2015.

WongPartnership, which usually Mr Wong co-founded and where he was senior partner, stated he was a good inspiring leader and mentor.  

“A luminary in his field, Alvin has been appointed Senior Lawyer of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2000 at the age of thirty seven, the youngest actually to be appointed, ” the firm stated in a statement on Saturday (Jul 30).

Mr Yeo’s former parliamentary colleagues also paid tribute to him.  

Mr Yee Chia Hsing, who seem to joined the Individuals Action Party’s Chua Chu Kang team after Mr Yeo retired from politics, said residents keep in mind him fondly.  

“It’s with much sadness while i received news that will former Nanyang MP, Mr Alvin Yeo, had passed on today after battling cancer for last two years, ” Mr Yee wrote in a Facebook write-up.

“I took over Nanyang from Alvin as adviser within 2015 and was grateful to your pet that he has established a powerful grassroots/party volunteer network.

“Residents keep in mind him fondly and he is the perfect guy. ”

Marsiling-Yew Tee MP Alex Yam noted Mister Yeo’s accomplishments like a lawyer, calling him “a giant within the legal fraternity”.

“While he towered over everyone together with his height, he had been gentle at heart, a large brother who guided and treated me personally with great amazing advantages, ” said Mister Yam, who was a part of Chua Chu Kang GRC when he or she entered politics this year.

“Although he retired from national politics in 2015, all of us kept in touch and met for meals to catch up. His wry sense associated with humour and yet deeply depth of believed always kept our own conversations interesting. ”
