Former editor dies at 61

Wanchai Rujawongsanti, the original sports editor of the Bangkok Post, passed away on Wednesday night after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was 61.

Prior to his departure, he also served as vice president of the Sport Writers Association of Thailand in addition to the Bangkok Post’s activities writer.

Wanchai served for the Bangkok Post for more than 20 times before retiring at the end of 2023.

He covered regional sports for many decades with extraordinary skill and enthusiasm and had a strong heart as a journalist. Additionally, he was a very kind director, and his coworkers loved and respected him.

His funeral services will start at 6 p.m. on Friday and continue until Sunday at Wat Pariwat on Rama 3 Road in Yannawa city. Next Tuesday is the scheduled burning service.

Wanchai is survived by his partner, Nalinee Chaliewkriengkrai.
