Former Chinese defence minister Li Shangfu expelled from Communist Party

BEIJING: &nbsp, Former Chinese defence minister Li Shangfu&nbsp, has been expelled from the ruling Communist Party, state media said on Thursday ( Jun 27 ), months after he was abruptly sacked in unexplained circumstances.

Li is suspected of taking money.

He vanished from the public consciousness two months prior to taking his posts as defense secretary and express councillor in October.

Xinhua reported on Thursday that Li was fired for major administrative and legal transgressions.

According to state broadcaster Video, the Politburo has decided to remove Li Shangfu from the group, revoke his qualifications as a representative of the 20th National Congress, and move his suspected criminal crimes to military procuratorial bodies for evaluation and prosecutors in accordance with the law.

A report on Li’s status was reviewed by the Communist Party’s strong Politburo on Thursday.
