SINGAPORE: A former employee of car dealership Car Times Automobile was charged in court with misappropriating a car, pocketing S$95,100 (US$69,300) and illegal online gambling.
Chan Chee Ken, 27, was handed four charges of criminal breach of trust by dishonest appropriation and unlicensed gambling.
According to charge sheets, Chan placed bets for baccarat using an unlicensed online gambling service at a flat in Punggol between March and May this year.
Between Apr 25 and May 19, he allegedly misappropriated S$57,000 in cash that he had been entrusted with as an employee of Car Times.
He also allegedly took S$38,100 belonging to the company on Apr 25.
On May 18, he allegedly misappropriated a Honda Shuttle Hybrid vehicle that he was entrusted with in his capacity at the car dealership.
The charging comes after a private-hire driver and customer of Car Times told Shin Min Daily News that she had handed money and traded in her old Honda Shuttle to a salesman, who went missing.
On Thursday, Chan did not indicate how he would plead, although he said he would be applying for legal aid. He will return to court next month.
The penalties for criminal breach of trust as an employee are a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine.
For illegal online gambling, an offender could be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.
