The Ministry of Defence has provided locally produced weapons to the Royal Forest Department, claiming this is the first moment the office has been granted access to cutting-edge submachine guns for the protection of more than 32 million acres of forest in the nation.
20 NIN9 machine guns were handed over last week at a meeting held by the office and the Defense Industry and Energy Centre.
The center developed the weapons in accordance with the government’s policy to boost the local weapons sector’s capacity for self-reliance in the development of defense weapons.
Bannarak Sermthong, the agency’s assistant captain, said 408 jungle defense devices were created global to protect and preserve the jungle areas from invasion and illegal logging.
Nevertheless, their limited inventory of weapons and outdated equipment have posed issues, Mr Bannarak said.
” If these fresh NIN9 weapons prove a good match for our functioning, we will question the government for a budget for more payments”, he said.
He claimed that because of their lightweight and long-lasting, the office chose the NIN9s.
He added that because the weapons are resistant to a lot of dust and rain, they are ideal for use in woodland police procedures.
He said the cost is around 95, 000 baht per system, cheaper than imported arms which cost around 120, 000 per unit.
Lt. Gen. Pawarit Panthong, the captain of the Defense Industry and Energy Center, described the move as a major step in support of the department’s goal to protect and preserve the jungle.
The heart would teach the district’s forest police team on how to use and preserve the weapon correctly, said Lt Gen Pawarit.
