For one 13-year-old survivor, Myanmar quake triggers painful memories of Cyclone Mocha

Only two days before the Eid al-Fitr celebration, which marked the end of the Islamic holy quarter, the last Friday blessings for Ramadan were held on March 28.

Sein, a 13-year-old Mandalay native, was listening as his Imam preached at a mosque close to his house. &nbsp,

The dome shook and the ground suddenly sprang to life. &nbsp,

” Everyone ran and scattered. When I reached my dad, he instructed me to remain calm and don’t run around. This expire while praying if we’re going to die, he said. &nbsp,

We then continued to pray. Our dome appeared to shake back and forth as if I suddenly felt like I was being fiercely pulled by somebody.”

Sein stepped out onto the streets and saw several outside stores collapse when the numbness subsided. &nbsp,

The teenager’s fear and déjà nostalgia was suffocated by the horrific picture. &nbsp,

PAINFUL MEMORIES &nbsp,

When Cyclone Mocha slammed into Myanmar, along Myanmar’s eastern coast, causing sluggish weather and winds, Sein lost his mother and younger brother less than two years ago. &nbsp, &nbsp,

When it made land in May 2023, the fatal cyclonic storm caused at least 145 fatalities in the nation and caused hundreds of thousands ofdisplaced people. &nbsp,

” I observed the sea levels rising, and waters flooded everything, even the tower where we sat. He remarked,” I had to float to get away.

His family was five months along at the moment. &nbsp,

” I sobbed a bit. My mother is undoubtedly gone. Mum has done anything for our house since I was a child, he said, his voice ringing with pain. &nbsp,

” I prayed to Allah, and I asked him to take my mother to sky. Please give us all to heaven if we lose our lives in this disaster so we can join her once more.

QUAKE&nbsp SAKES NEW LIFE,

Sein rushed back to the apartment he shared with his new home when the earth suddenly started to shake from the 7.7-magnitude disaster. &nbsp,

Sein has a younger sister while his parents has since remarried. A month after Cyclone Mocha, they left Myanmar to begin a new life in Mandalay. &nbsp,

The tie in his chest tightened as he raced past crumbling structures in the earthquake. &nbsp,

He was sadly found his household unharmed, though shaken by the strong tremors. &nbsp,

” The wind hit me,” I said. I experienced the disaster. He said,” I don’t want ( natural disasters ) any more. &nbsp,
