SINGAPORE: Flash floods were reported in the Bukit Timah area on Sunday ( Dec 29 ) due to heavy rain.
According to the regional water organization PUB, some parts of Singapore experienced heavy rain on Sunday evening.
Around 5o’clock at night, there were flash floods along Dunearn Road and Bukit Timah Road near King Albert Park because of the local drains and Bukit Timah Canal’s high water levels.
The organization stated in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon that” PUB’s Quick Response Team were deployed ahead of the rain and after closed off disturbed roads, directing traffic away from waters.”
The display storms subsided in 20 minutes.
PUB pointed out that over the past ten years, drains improvements have been carried out along the Bukit Timah Canal and Bukit Timah First Diversion Canal, making the Bukit Timah region susceptible to flooding.
As a long-term measure to improve disaster protection in the area, there are also continuing works to increase and enhance a 900m stretch of the Bukit Timah Canal, from Rifle Range Road to Jalan Kampong Chantek. By 2026, this will be finished.
Additionally, the company issued flood danger alerts for almost 20 places, including Bukit Timah and Toa Payoh, as well as for central and western Choa Chu Kang and Chinatown.
