PHUKET: Five Soviet men have received sentences of two years in prison each for extorting a Russian partners in this resort area province, requiring them to exchange more than 30 million baht worth of bitcoin.
The Phuket Provincial Court’s decision was made public on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The five defendants were initially given a four-year prison sentence by the court for force, unlawful confinement, and other related offenses.
Due to their statement, the words were commuted to two times each without disqualification.
Although a past authorities report stated that the two were Belarusian citizens, the five men were found guilty of abducting a Russian partners, the court was told.  ,
The couple claimed that a group of people abducted them in front of a restaurant in the Muang region around 10pm on January 31 this year.
The pair were taken in a dark Hyundai van and forced to move US$ 901, 200, or about 31 million ringgit, worth of bitcoin. After the payments were made, the group released them, who instantly filed a problem.
