Five killed in Thai floods with more heavy rain expected

BANGKOK: On Tuesday, October 17, officials issued a notice that more heavy rainfall was on the way after five people were killed in storms in Thailand’s northwest this year.

23 Thai people have perished in storms and 33 have been injured since the monsoon season started in September, according to a declaration from the public health ministry.

Five people were killed by floods in Phayao, a province in northeastern Thailand, earlier this week, according to the ministry.

On Tuesday, flood warnings were issued for 32 counties in Thailand.

Bangkok and Phuket, a well-known beach area, are also expected to experience heavy rains.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior,” a west monsoon is blowing over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, and it will improve rain in Thailand.”

According to the speech, floods have affected more than 62 000 Thai homes this wet period.

As regional officials scramble to distribute life kits to residents, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has been making frequent trips to flood areas in recent weeks.

In 2011, there were popular floods that killed more than 500 people and destroyed thousands of homes nationwide.
