According to officials, five soldiers were killed in an invasion by suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua area.
Initial reports claimed that insurgents hiding in a nearby valley were shooting at the men in their military automobiles.
According to authorities, troops arrived fast and a research operation was launched to find the intruders.
Since 1989, there has been an armed insurgency in Kashmir against Indian rule, but murder has since stopped.
Monday hour’s attack in Jammu scars a quarter of increasing assault in the region.
Last month, nine people died and 33 were injured after suspected militants fired on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the area.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his deep sorrow over the recent atrocities.
” My deepest sympathies to the bereaved people, the country stands company with them in this tough time”, Mr Singh wrote on X, previously Online.
” The counter-terrorist activities are live, and our men are determined to herald in peace and order in the region”, he said.
Reports say the militants – their exact number unknown – launched an attack in an area flanked by a hill on one side and a steep slope on the other. They descended from the hillside, targeting primarily one truck.
Five men were likewise injured in the assault, officials said.
In the comparatively quiet Jammu area, seven problems have been reported since June.
The most recent invasion is the next significant occurrence in the Kathua district in a month, and it is also the second major assault on Jammu’s army in just two days.
On 11 June, a man and two suspected insurgents died in a battle in Kathua. Another man was hurt on Sunday when an army camp was attacked in Jammu’s Rajouri district.
For years, India and Pakistan have been at odds with one another in Kashmir’s Himalayan region.
Since 1947, the nuclear-armed mates have fought two war over the Muslim-majority province, which both declare in full but power in piece.
Since 1989, an armed rebellion in Indian-administered Kashmir against Delhi’s law has claimed thousands of lives.
Delhi accuses Islamabad of stifling harmony in the area and harboring insurgents, a command Pakistan refutes.
