KOTA KINABALU: Over 200 people lost their homes when a fire razed some 20 semi-concrete houses in Kudat district.
The fire at Kg Tanjung Kapur was reported at 2.28am on Monday (Oct 10), said Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara.
He said 20 of the houses at the water village were destroyed, while no injuries were reported in the incident.
It is learnt that some of the victims who were awakened by the smoke then alerted their neighbours, preventing injuries and loss of life.
“Firemen managed to bring the fire under control at 4.21am and operations ceased at 6.43am,” Misran said in a statement.
He said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Civil Defence officials are on scene to register the details of fire victims as they will be placed at a temporary shelter in the district.
