After the closure of its final location at Leisure Park Kallang, Filmgarde Cineplexes announced on Tuesday ( Mar 25 ) that it had left the film industry.
The announcement was made in a social media post with the caption” It has been a great 18 years and it is finally time for us to dim the lights.” I appreciate having accompanied us on our visual trip. We’ll run into you once more.
The independent theater operator added in the post,” It has been a journey that was unstoppable, filled with endless memories, and even a few small moments of pleasure that helped us stay going over the years”!
Filmgarde originally owned three theaters, but they shut two down in 2022. Following the termination of the company’s leases at the two malls, the two outlets, located , at Bugis and Century Square , , were shuttered.
The second filmgarde location was in 2007. It was established to “provide an exciting and high-quality solution” to the area’s neighborhood moviegoing scene at the time,” according to its Facebook website.
Filmgarde screened separate and lesser-known Eastern films alongside major blockbusters, a smaller size than other stores like Golden Village and Shaw Theatres.
Additionally, it supported Singapore videos and, if anything, it even displayed movies that were screening at the Singapore International Film Festival.
The dedication and hard work of our neighborhood film industry has inspired us to watch some of the most captivating native movies only at our theaters, according to Filmgarde’s article.
