
THE CASE OF THE PROSECUTION
Chelvam and Gaiyathiri lived in a three-bedroom apartment in Bishan with their two children, who were then four and one. One of the rooms had two tenants, according to the trial.
Although Prema owned her own apartment, she frequently moved in to assist with cooking and taking care of the kids.
Prema and Ms Piang Ngaih Don may share a room when she stayed overnight, where she slept on the ground.
Late in May 2015, Ms. Piang Ngaih Don began working for Chelvam’s home under a two-year deal. She had her first job outside of Myanmar.  ,
Although Chelvam was her company, his then-wife was in charge of keeping tabs on her every day and for her welfare.  ,
With the knowledge that Gaiyathiri did give her more and let her rest at home, Ms. Piang Ngaih Don agreed to Gaiyathiri’s work problems, which were that she shouldn’t have a handphone or any off time.
Along with other conditions, Chelvam agreed to give the maid at least three suitable meals per day as part of her employment agreement.
When Gaiyathiri became angry with Ms. Piang Ngaih Don, she may yell at her and reprimand her. But, Gaiyathiri started abusing him physically in October 2015.  ,
Around May 2016, Prema became aware of the actual abuse committed by Gaiyathiri and began actually abusing Ms. Piang Ngaih Don as well.  ,
Gaiyathiri also prevented the girl from getting enough rest and food, and she only had access to five hours of sleep per night.  ,
Prema was conscious of this and had observed that Ms. Piang Ngaih Don was gaining a lot of weight.  ,
Ms. Piang Ngaih Don also had to take a bath and take a bath while Gaiyathiri or Prema watched or to take a shower with the bathroom door open.
She wore several levels of experience faces as she went about her day-to-day tasks because Gaiyathiri found her “unhygienic” and refused to look at her face.
While she lay on the floor, Gaiyathiri used a wire to connect a of Ms. Piang Ngaih Don’s arms to a window gate in her home for 11 times straight starting on July 15, 2016.
Supposedly to stop her from leaving the room at night because of this.

To keep track of Ms. Piang Ngaih Don and the kids, a Camera system was installed in the apartment. During the course of the investigation, 35 days ‘ worth of images were discovered from June 21, 2016 to July 26, 2016.  ,
The images captured the victimization and maltreatment that Ms. Piang Ngaih Don experienced in the weeks leading up to her dying.
It revealed that Prema stayed over at the house for at least seven of those seven times.
Additionally, it revealed that Chelvam was frequently at home while the victim was berated and beaten, and that this frequently occurred right in front of him on various occasions.
Five instances of Chelvam standing by in the house while Ms. Piang Ngaih Don was being assaulted by Gaiyathiri inside the bathroom or in the house were captured on video from court.  ,
Chelvam attempted to prevent investigations after the death of Ms. Piang Ngaih Don by removing the CCTV state’s record and lying about where it was going.
Chelvam informed the police that the microphone had been taken out at a homeowner’s demand six months prior because they were “uncomfortable” with it.  ,
On the day the defendant’s death was discovered, Chelvam even pretended to search the house for the record before claiming he could not find it while he was with the officers that day.
