The home of the man who died on Friday after falling into a pipe also on Lat Phrao Road is suing the company for damages in the amount of 10 million baht.
Kamthorn Jaruanan, 59, passed away on Friday at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital, where his home was preparing to pay his respects.
In Wang Thong Lang area, a collision occurred on Friday near the Lat Phrao Soi 49 teeth. When Mr. Kamthorn fell into the 7 meter-deep gap covered in wood, he was crossing the road. He was found dead shortly after being retrieved by volunteers, but they did not.
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority ( MEA ) apologized within hours, claiming that due to the theft of its iron manhole covers, it had been using temporary wooden covers in some locations throughout Bangkok.
Kamthorn’s nephew, Kampon Jaruanan, 57, told investigators that Tavida Kamolvej, a Bangkok lieutenant governor, had contacted him to give first compensation for the loss.
He said the minister to Thitivut Ngernklay, the MEA lieutenant governor, also called to show sympathies but did not offer an explanation.
According to Mr Kampon, the minister to Chuan Leekpai, a former prime minister and parliament leader, even contacted him about payment.
Mr. Kampon emphasized that he would pursue legal action against the concerned party in total. He called on the MEA to protect the gutters properly, not “irresponsibly”, because someone may drop into them, including children.
When asked if he would accept the company, he said no. He claimed that the company had given his and his family a decision to demand damages in the amount of 10 million baht.
Mr. Kamthorn’s body’s biopsy revealed that he had died from drowning and a broken neck.
According to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA ), the MEA has already ordered concrete covers to be installed on several tube wells in Bangkok, including the one where the death occurred, according to spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, who spoke for the spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala.
Rames Rattanachaweng, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Party, condemned the mistake and carelessness of government agencies, which risk lives for the consumer.
He claimed that his group was closely watching the situation and did actively look for ways to safely ensure the safety of people’s lives.
