Ex-Malaysia PM Muhyiddin to be questioned by police over campaign speech that allegedly questioned former king’s decision

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will make a police statement on Tuesday ( Aug 20 ) regarding allegedly inflammatory remarks he made in Kelantan regarding the formation of the country’s current unity government.

According to several police reports, Muhyiddin was allegedly questioning the role of Malaysia’s king in the 15th General Election ( GE15 ) in November 2022, including by the Pahang Palace. &nbsp,

Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, pahang’s ruler, was in power at the time, and he stepped down as king earlier this year as a result of Malaysia’s special circular monarchy system. &nbsp,

” We are calling ( Muhyiddin ) to provide his statement on Aug 20 to facilitate investigations”, Malaysia’s Inspector General of Police Razarudin Husain was quoted as saying by state news agency Bernama, adding that 29 reports have been lodged against the former premier. &nbsp,

Muhyiddin, who is currently the leader of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( Bersatu), was the nation’s seventh prime minister and served as its leader from March 2020 to August 2021. &nbsp,

In a picture of his conversation, which was said to have been delivered on August 15 at Felda Perasu in preparation for a state congressional by-election in Kelantan, Muhyiddin questioned the formation of the latest unity government following GE15. Since then, the film has gone viral. &nbsp,

” I had ( the support of ) 115 parliamentarians. If we followed the Constitution, I had a full that was more than enough to become the prime minister. I do n’t want to bring it up, but it is a record of history.

But I’m not sure how the king at the time did n’t invite me to the palace to be sworn in. Who was the prince at the time? Pahang,” said Muhyiddin, referring to Pahang’s Sultan Abdullah. &nbsp,

Muhyiddin said in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday evening that his talk in Nenggiri was a scientific statement that did not intend to offend the royal organization or to inspire the general public.

” I think my speech did not violate any laws of the nation,” I believe. He said,” I will give my full cooperation to the police to clarify the facts behind my statement.” &nbsp,

Earlier on Monday night, Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah said that Muhyiddin’s first remarks were sarcastic, harmful and dangerous among other things. &nbsp,

” The assertion seems childish, reflecting his inability to accept that he was not appointed as Prime Minister, “he said, adding that the comment incited distrust in the Malay imperial organization.

Tengku Hassanal also urged the police to take legal action against Muhyiddin, who is also the leader of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional ( PN). &nbsp,

PN- which is made up of Bersatu, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia ( PAS ) and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia ( Gerakan )- had won 74 seats in GE15.

Four primary officials served under Sultan Abdullah during one of the country’s most politically volatile years during his five-year rule as king. &nbsp, &nbsp,

Sultan Abdullah stated in February of last year that he had provided ample room for elected Members of Parliament ( MPs ) to work together and come to a consensus based on the principles of unity for the country’s future. &nbsp,

According to the information site The Star, he was cited as saying,” Based on the Federal Constitution, I consented to the visit of Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s twelfth Prime Minister.”

After GE15 failed to produce a clear win and led to a hung parliament, Mr. Anwar was sworn in as prime minister on November 24, 2022. His former ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional ( BN), and his Pakatan Harapan coalition are now his leaders in a unity government.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah ( GRS ), and Parti Warisan ( Warisan ) are the other parties and coalitions currently supporting the unity government.

Sultan Abdullah was then told by the Star that he had no desire to get involved in national elections and that he was only carrying out his responsibilities as monarch.

If the events that led to the resignation of the sixth prime minister had never taken place, I think the political unrest that persisted up until GE15 could have been avoided.

The prince was quoted as saying,” More importantly, the political problems that plagued the region for nearly four years could’ve been avoided if elected members and officials were ready to put aside their differences and join for the people and the country we loved.”

In 2020, the” Sheraton Walk” crumbled the Mahathir Mohamad leadership from within. Apparently, the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya erected a portion of this story.

More than 30 members of the ruling Pakatan Harapan ( PH) alliance defected, bringing it down after only 22 months in power.

Under Muhyiddin’s 17-month administration and Mr. Sabri Yaakob’s 15-month administration, respectively, were they 17 weeks long.
