Ex-director of marine company charged with alleged offences involving marine gasoil worth US$56 million

SINGAPORE: A former managing director of a marine company was charged in courtroom on Wednesday (Aug 3) with data corruption offences involving  gasoil valued at about US$56 million (S$77 million).

Pai Keng Pheng was your managing director associated with Sentek Marine plus Trading at the time of the offences, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) mentioned in a news release on Wednesday.

Between August 2014 and January 2018, the organization had allegedly acquired about 118, 131 metric tonnes of marine gasoil which had been dishonestly misappropriated from Shell Eastern Petroleum’s facility on Pulau Bukom, stated SPF.

The gasoil was packed onboard Sentek’s ships.

This was allegedly done with Pai Keng Pheng’s consent throughout his tenure generally there.

According to SPF, Pai is dealing with 42 charges associated with consenting to Sentek’s acquisition of property representing another person’s advantages from criminal conduct, where for each offence, he or she faces a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine of up to S$500, 000, or both.

Pai also faces an additional cost of abetting the obstruction of the span of justice for allegedly instigating an individual called Pai Kheng Hian to instruct a witness to give false info to investigators.  

For this offence, he faces a jail term as high as seven years, an excellent, or both.

The latest charges amplify 30 charges associated with corruptly giving satisfaction and 10 charges of obstructing the course of justice that will Pai had earlier been charged along with.

In Mar, a former Shell employee was jailed for 29 years for his function in a S$128 mil marine fuel heist at Shell’s Pulau Bukom refinery  that involved illegally launching bunkers, including Sentek vessels,   with stolen marine gas.
