EU, France press Xi to halt Ukraine war, uphold fair trade

Xi said China and the Euro if “remain partners” and” hold out proper cooperation” and therefore “make fresh efforts to world peace and development”.

“FLOODING EUROPEAN MARKET”

Europe is concerned that China is fundamentally supporting Russia, which produces weapons using Chinese equipment resources, despite its official neutrality in the Ukraine conflict.

Von der Leyen added that” this does change EU-China relations” and that “more effort is needed to restrict the supply of double use items to Russia that find their way to the battle” after the discussions.

She added that both France and the EU “have a shared interest in peace and protection,” and that China should exert all of its effect on Russia to stop Ukraine’s anger.

Von der Leyen added that she was” confident” that Xi would continue to play an “important function” in averting Russian nuclear threats, just as President Vladimir Putin imposed military drills on troops stationed close to Ukraine.

Trade is a top priority in the discussions, according to Macron and von der Leyen, underscoring that Europe has support its” proper interests” in its financial relations with China.

She said that” Europe will not hesitate to make hard decisions to safeguard its economy and security.”

Von der Leyen cited “imbalances that remain important” as well as” a matter of great concern” for Chinese incentives for electric vehicles and material as “flooding the German business.”

During the discussions, Xi disputed that China’s overcapacity in international trade existed, and argued that China and Europe should “dialogue and consult, and support each other’s legitimate concerns” in response to the foreign ministry.

France’s whiskey economy, based in the southwest of the country, is however carefully watching the talks fearing an against- dumping investigation opened by China, its next market, is retaliation by Beijing for the trade tensions.

” ONE OF THE Excellent Prey”

Human rights are being urged by rights organizations to call on Macron to address the subject of the conversations, accusing China of abiding by the Uyghur Muslim minority’s demands and detaining lots of journalists.

Maya Wang, acting China director at Human Rights Watch, emphasized that President Macron may make it clear to Xi Jinping that Beijing’s crimes against humanity have an impact on French relations with China.

Reporters Without Borders, a party fighting press freedom, set up a trailer in central Paris with the names of 119 journalists it claims China is holding, and named Xi as “one of the great predators of media liberty.”

Macron will travel to the Pyrenees mountains with his wife Peng Liyuan for a day of less public speaking while Xi is accompanied by his wife on Tuesday.

Analysts are skeptical that Macron will be able to exert much influence over the Chinese leader, even with the extravagant red carpet visit and a Tuesday trip to the Col du Tourmalet’s chilly mountain air.

Serbia and Hungary, Xi’s and Hungary’s other European nations, are thought to be among those who are most sympathetic to Moscow.

According to Janka Oertel, director of the Asia program at the European Council on Foreign Relations, “it’s unlikely that Macron’s trade and Ukraine messages will have a significant impact on Chinese behavior.”
