Engine explosion on ferry off Chumphon, 18 injured

18 passengers were injured by an huge increase and fire aboard a passenger ferry on the Chumphon-Koh Tao route, in the ocean about 5 kilometres off the Chumphon coastline, on Wednesday mid-day.

Law enforcement and rescue workers raced to help injured passengers off the burning up boat, near Koh Ka in tambon Hat Sairee, in Muang district, Chumphon. The injured mainly suffered burns,  

Some other passengers  jumped in to the sea.

There was an huge increase on the ferry, managed by Lomprayah Company, around 2 . 30pm.

Police said the engine exploded. The fireplace spread from there, Thailänder media reported.
