The Ministry of Manpower ( MOM) received a “on time” notification from Dyson within five working days of notifying the affected staff, according to the ministry on Saturday ( October 12 ).
This enabled the Taskforce for Responsible Retrenchment and Employment Facilitation to collaborate with Dyson and include staff from MOM, Workforce Singapore, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and e2i, a division of NTUC, to supply” job cooperation services and information packages” to affected team.
According to MOM in a statement, the union, United Workers of Electronics and Electrical Industries ( UWEEI), and e2i are also assisting the impacted workers who have approached them.
The government added that Dyson had provided retrenched workers with downsizing benefits that are in line with the Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment, which states that employees with two or more years of services are available for downsizing benefits.
According to MOM, Dyson will also provide downsizing gains to affected people with less than two years of service.
” The affected workers will have after support, outplacement support and accessibility to training and career counselling”, added the government.
The coalition and Dyson reached out to MOM to get a” explanation of the issues of issue” through the press statement.
The coalition recently claimed to have contacted MOM about the situation and that it was disappointed that it had only been informed the day before the training.
Earlier this month, the software company conducted a round of cuts in Singapore, which serves as its world office. People from the , manufacturing and purchasing departments were apparently affected.
Given that the company had previously announced that it was increasing its investments in this country, the downsizing exercise was surprising.  ,
