DSI officials deny graft allegation

Three DSI officials suspected in the Nauru consul embezzlement case turned on their own in to police on Saturday, deputy police national chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn said.

The officers under the Department of Special Investigation were recognized as Tharin Pichitkunchorn, previous Special Investigation Cleverness division director, and former officers Anan Seelakhot and Adisorn Sonthiworachai.

They were suspended from duty after getting accused of embezzlement and bribery within connection to a raid at the home from the former consul-general from the Republic of Nauru in Sathon district last month. Most three denied the charges during police questioning.

Pol Gen Surachate said the trio were granted bail. They also insisted they might only give their statements to a courtroom, he said.

He also said employees in the consul-general’s office of the Republic of Nauru would be subject to extra questioning. Agents can collect evidence before determining whether to charge the employees, he said.

Meanwhile, DSI spokeswoman Pichaya Tharakornsanti said the agency has started the disciplinary investigation into the officers.

It is also aiming to determine whether they have committed an identical crime in the past, the lady said. If so, just about all cases will be mixed, she said.

She mentioned the DSI needs to announce improvement in the investigation these days.

2 other DSI officials are believed to also have been involved in the embezzlement case.

The raid arrived after the DSI received a request to do something from the Vice Consul-General of Nauru upon Dec 9. It led to the seizure of 2 . 5 million baht as well as the arrest of a Chinese maid.

The search team, however , is now under investigation over a lacking 5. 5 mil baht it available at the scene and another 4 million in bribes in return for the release associated with 11 Chinese nationals found at the site.
