
A police officer in Chachoengso was moved to an inert position while legal proceedings are pending. He hit and injured a woman on a bicycle with a car while driving a police vehicle while intoxicated.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, the accident took place in the Sanam Chai Khet district’s tambon Thung Phraya.
Surveillance tapes showed the victim, a 48-year-old girl only identified as Surinipha, riding a motorcycle with a car outside a home and about to leave.
A driving pickup truck struck the motorcycle, and it was dragged along the path. According to the municipal police department, Ms. Surinipha was hospitalized for three to four days after suffering brain injury and a broken right arm.
The driver of the delivery, Pol Capt Saksit Chimanonwit, 52, of Wang Khu police depot, was discovered to be a police car.
He was interrogated and deemed to get drunk. His blood alcohol content was 0.079 % when tested. He was accused of driving while intoxicated and inconsiderately while driving. For experienced owners, the legal limit is 0.04 percent, or 0.5 % per liter of heart.
Pol Capt Saksit was moved to an inert position on Wednesday by Chachoengsao police captain Pol Maj Kriengkrai Boonson, who set up a screen to look into the case.
After Ms. Surinipha’s medical discharge, the accused officer apologized and gave the victim 20 000 baht as well as a promise of more “healing.”
According to the police, legal proceedings may follow, according to the law.
In a press conference, Pol Capt Saksit expressed regret for what transpired.
