Drug ring busted, seven nabbed in KL cops' special op

KUALA LUMPUR: The drug distribution band, dealing mostly within marijuana, has been busted in a special police operation in the government capitol.

Three raids, dubbed Operations Ophelia, were conducted on Thursday (Aug 18) and Fri (Aug 19) which usually saw seven individuals arrested with 5 of them tested positive for drugs.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the first raid was in the reception of a hotel within Kampung Baru where two men and a lady aged between thirty-two and 39 were detained.

A follow-up raid on a hotel room there led to the arrest of the 32-year-old man along with a drug seizure.

“We seized 1kg of marijuana and 958g of syabu, ” he said in a statement upon Monday (Aug 22).

Comm Azmi said a third raid was then carried out at the carpark of a condominium in Ampang which led to three more arrests and also a larger drug seizure.

“We grabbed 30kg of weed worth RM75, 500. Three men, from the ages of between 23 and 27, were arrested.

“The approximated total value of the particular drugs seized has been RM112, 500, ” he said.

Comm Azmi additional that the syndicate managed from a guarded condo to cover their procedures.

“The Klang Valley is their intended market and it is believed they obtained their supply from the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia.

“Six of the seven have records of previous offences and all have already been remanded until Friday (Aug 26), ” he said.
