Mr. Foo noted that owners of bars can also inform their clients of the new penalties for consume driving, which were set to be enforced in 2019 to indicate the seriousness of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
First-time offenders can be fined up to S$ 10, 000 ( US$ 7, 400 ) or sentenced up to a year in jail, or face both punishments. They may also be subject to a minimum two-year suspension from driving.
The legal drinking control is 35mg of beer per 100ml of mouth, or 80mg of alcohol for every 100ml of blood.
COULD INCENTIVES Job?
Some servant services claimed that more can be done to encourage patrons to avoid drinking and driving in addition to raising awareness.
Ms Rajvinder Kaur, user of Valet 4 U, said she hopes for for companies to be regulated by authorities.
” Maybe the government can work with the bars and KTVs (karaokes ), these nightlife establishments, on how to regulate such valet services. Maybe there ( can be ) some cash back for the bars or KTVs, if let’s say ( they ) engage the valet services on behalf of their customers”, she added.
Ms. Kaur claimed that her company offers” a little opportunity” to employees at bars and clubs who assist consumers in calling for their service.
” It’s a win-win situation. Their customers will still have their ( driving ) licence, they can always come back to drink, and then ( the staff ) also earn a bit of incentive. We even get new users”, she added.
Even with all of these measures in place, nightlife operators claim that the responsibility lies finally with the customers to make sure they are safe while enjoying their evening out.
Mr. Foo warned individuals to keep in mind that the time it will be when they will be caught driving while keeping their composure.
” I think the bigger issue is really stubborn users. Some individuals just want to travel and take the risk personally”, he added.
