” ARCHITEC T” OF MALAYSIA’S ECONOMY
In a post on X, home secretary Saifuddin Nasution Ismail claimed that Daim was “one of the popular leaders who had made significant contributions to the country.”  ,
In her remarks, Nancy Shukri, the secretary of women’s affairs, praised Daim for “playing a crucial role in efforts to stabilize the world’s market during the financial problems of the 1980s and 1990s.”
She continued, adding that he had a significant impact on various regional development initiatives and that he had supported social welfare and education through foundations and charitable endeavors.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said were among the United Malays National Organization ( UMNO ) officials who acknowledged Daim’s contributions.
Mr Ahmad Zahid is chairman of UMNO, Malaysia’s previous ruling group of which Daim was manager between 1984 and 2001.  ,
Daim, according to Ms. Azalina, was a significant player in Rm at the time, and despite both of his positive and negative contributions, he also made a significant contribution to the organization.
Daim, along with previous officials Rafidah Aziz and Rais Yatim, were sacked from UMNO recently in May 2018 for fighting for the Mahathir-led Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election.  ,
Opposition head Hamzah Zainudin told reporters at Daim’s house:” He was an engineer of the country’s business, so much so that at one time Malaysia was known as an Eastern cat”.
Mian Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, a part of the Muar Parliament, was also present. ” Yet before his departure, he has been extremely, extremely kind, sympathetic and useful in being there, not just for me but for many people, day in and day out, so I am indebted to him”, he said.
Mr Syed Saddiq served as children and sporting minister from 2018 to 2020 under Dr Mahathir. After decades of Barisan Nasional rule, Daim was appointed chairman of the quasi-official Council of Eminent Persons ( CECEP ) to reform the nation’s policies in May 2018, when Dr. Mahathir took office as prime minister.
Although Daim’s cause of death has not been revealed, his solicitor Gurdial Singh Nijar claimed that after having a stroke, he spent a few weeks in Petaling Jaya’s Assunta Hospital’s intensive care unit.  ,
He was interred at Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery and was interred at the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
