Director Bong Joon-ho ‘proud’ of South Koreans overcoming martial law bid

Oscar-winning chairman Bong Joon-ho praised the efforts of his own South Koreans to get past the devastation caused by President Yoon Suk Yeol’s short-lived passage to martial law on December 3.

About six hours prior to the legislators scaling the walls of the National Assembly to ballot it over, defying efforts by the military and police, the military law that sparked South Korea’s biggest democratic crisis in years.

While legal proceedings over the military law pay needed to be finished, Bong, who was holding a press event for his new sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17 in Seoul, said that at least normal life may continue.

” We are now holding a movie press conference and music, films and our daily life continue without hesitation”, said Bong.

” I think that’s the satisfaction of our residents who have already overcame the military law,” said Bong, who was one of the figures in the film industry who at the time released a statement outright condemning the martial law charter.

Yoon has been suspended from his position and is facing a charge of rebellion stemming from his alleged insurrection against his military law attempt to impose censorship over political and legislative elections.
