The appointment of Pol Gen Roy Roy Inkhapairote, a deputy national police chief, as secretary-general of the National Security Council ( NSC ) has been approved by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

According to Dr. Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general to the perfect minister, all parties involved agreed with the move before it was proposed to Pol Gen Roy. The move is pending royal consent.

Since Gen Supot Malaniyom retired on September 30, the position of NSC secretary-general has been unoccupied. Chatchai Bangchuad, his lieutenant, has been acting secretary-general.

Prior to Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol’s promotion to the position, the federal police chief was one of four candidates who ran sooner.

Among the challengers, Pol Gen Roy had the highest tenure, while Poli Gen Torsak came in third. The senior police officer, who is expected to leave this year, sees the NSC position as a solace prize.

Pol Lt Gen Prachuap Wongsuk, who will retire in 2025, is the most mature assistant police chief who is most likely to be promoted in April.
