The Labour Ministry has made it clear that only those who want to work as seasonal farm laborers in South Korea may apply for ministry-sponsored programs.

This follows Labour Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn’s conference with South Korea’s Employment and Labour Minister, Lee Jung- Sik, during the Labour Ministry’s formal visit to the South Eastern region last month. Additionally, Mr. Pipat met with some agrarian entrepreneurs in need of workers, including the governor of Gyeonggi province Kim Dong-yeon.

Mr. Pipat stated that they had a conversation about Thai employees working in South Korea and that the Labour Ministry’s Department of Employment ( DoE ) had created a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) template that could be used to form partnerships with any South Korean local authorities to send Thai employees there.

Mr. Pipat warned potential participants to prevent applying for the program with other organizations and that only the DoE is authorized to give workers to South Korea as part of this program.

Somchai Morakotsriwan, chairman- standard of the DoE, said his company had safely entered into an MoU with South Jeolla country’s Goheung County on Tuesday &nbsp, to bring in annual agricultural employees from Thailand.

According to Mr. Somchai, South Korea is now looking to hire 3, 000 people of all kinds. Those applying for an E-8 visa to work in Goheung County must be Thai nationals from Yasothon or Satun with a 25- to 50-year age. They must also have at least a month of relevant knowledge or become a registered producer.

The minimum wage is about 265 baht per hour, so they will be able to earn about 50, 000 ringgit a fortnight, he said.
