Following the publication of a video online that received a lot of negative feedback, the Democrat Party has launched a fact-finding investigation into allegations of sexual wrongdoing involving a group member and a Buddhist monk.

Ramet Rattanachaweng, a Democrat official and executive member, stated on Thursday that the group did not sit back after finding out about the incident on Wednesday night, gathering immediately information and forming party leader Chalermchai Sri-on.

Mr Ramet said the accused person, as a Democrat, is obligated to adhere to the ethical rules outlined in the group’s regulations, which include maintaining confidence, upholding ethics and serving as a positive role model within the home establishment.

After receiving the review, Mr Chalermchai ordered the setting up of a truth- finding committee to check the allegations, composed of original party MP Theerachart Pangwirunrak, party- list candidate Charin Liangkanchanakul and himself, said the spokesman.

He claimed that the accused woman has been a Democrat since March 26, 2023, but has n’t participated in party activities since the general election on May 14, 2013. She has held no official position within the party, he added.

Within three days, the investigation is expected to be finished, with the findings forwarded to the Democratic Executive Board for further investigation. Should the accused member be found to have breached party regulations, her membership will be revoked.

” This is the responsibility of the political party institution”, said Mr Ramet. A party member must act in accordance with morality, virtue, and ethics in order to win public support and trust.

According to the party’s rules, “being a good role model for the family institution is a key priority.” When a party member is involved in an incident, the party is obligated to strictly follow its rules, making sure that the public accepts the party’s commitment to handling such cases.

The party’s actions come after a video that was posted on the popular Facebook group E- Sor Khayee Khao on Wednesday, which claimed an ex-polite couple had an extramarital relationship.

On March 22 this year, the woman’s husband who became suspicious drove from Bangkok to their home in Sukhothai province, where he recorded the alleged affairs as evidence. The woman and the monk attempted to assault the man and seize his smartphone while they were both attempting to run naked from the bed.

The woman reportedly denied having any ties to the monk on Wednesday, claiming that he had only visited her room to take a bath.

Later, the Facebook page revealed that the monk had broken his vows and fled from an Uttaradit temple. Netizens have been harshly criticized for the scandal.
