Deere faces bribery probe

A committee will be established by the Transport Ministry to look into a scandal involving the US-based agricultural and construction equipment company Deere &amp, Company allegedly paying bribes to obtain procurement contracts from the Department of Highways ( DoH ) and the Department of Rural Roads ( DRR ).

Suriya Jungrungreangkit, the chancellor of travel, claimed the incident occurred some time ago and that he had ordered his agency to look into the information before starting an official investigation.

When questioned about the identity of the bribery suspects, Mr. Suriya stated that the investigation is ongoing and that major progress is anticipated in the next two weeks.

He also emphasized the need for stricter measures to stop similar incidents from occurring, claiming that the government views this as a high priority matter. He claimed that any state officials who engage in bribery at any level may be harshly punished.

According to past accounts, Deere’s Thai company, Wirtgen Thailand, bribed representatives of the Royal Thai Air Force, DoH and DRR to help it get purchasing contracts.

In the form of treatment room service, luxury outside outings, and other presents between 2019 and 2020, Wirtgen’s high-level executives allegedly paid senior executives at the three express agencies in the form of bribes.
