Death toll in Vietnam from Typhoon Yagi rises to 58

The disaster management agency reported on Tuesday ( 10 September ) that at least 58 people were killed and 40 others were still missing in northern Vietnam as a result of Typhoon Yagi and the mudslides and floods it caused.

Most of the subjects were killed in floods and flash storms, the organization said in a statement, adding that almost 750 individuals have been injured.

A significant number of industrial and residential places were destroyed by the typhoon’s landfall on Vietnam’s northeast coast on Saturday, leading to unsafe floods and landslides.

According to the organization and the state media, many rivers in northern Vietnam have risen alarmingly high, leaving settlements and private areas inundated.

A 30-year-old bridge over the Red River in the northeastern state of Phu Tho collapsed on Monday, leaving eight missing, according to a declaration from the municipal Women’s Committee.

According to express media reports, officials have since restricted or interfering with customers on different roads across the creek, including Chuong Duong Bridge in Hanoi.
