The Chartthaipattana Party (CTP) is working to gain more constituency and list MP seats than in the last poll despite only fielding half the number of candidates it is entitled to.
CTP leader Varawut Silpa-archa said yesterday the party will move ahead with its election strategy now the House has been dissolved, which sets in motion the poll campaign.
The party is launching a so-called “Wow Tour” campaign in the Northeast from tomorrow to March 27, with the first stop in Kalasin, to be followed by Yasothon on March 25 and 26.
The constituency-rich Northeast is relatively unfamiliar turf to the CTP, which is based in Suphan Buri and traditionally dominates the Central Plains region.
Mr Varawut, also the natural resources and environment minister, said his party was keen to improve its performance in the Northeast. In the 2019 election, the CTP came away with one MP seat in Roi Et.
Overall, the party aims to win more seats. In the 2019 election, it bagged six constituency seats and five list seats under the now-defunct, single-ballot poll system.
Unfazed by Pheu Thai’s goal of scoring a landslide win in the Northeast and elsewhere, Mr Varawut said the key to electoral success lies in how well a party can impress voters with its policy manifesto.
At the heart of the “Wow Tour” is the push for a charter amendment to create fair and accountable politics, overhaul the farm sector and boost people’s income.
The CTP has finalised the names of all 100 potential candidates in the party list election system.
Meanwhile, party director Nikorn Chamnong said the CTP is legally able to field poll candidates in 100 constituencies across 28 of 77 provinces nationwide.
A party can only field candidates in constituencies where it has conducted primaries and met other requirements.
