Crocodile mauls woman to death in Indonesia

A crocodile killed a woman while she was swimming in a river in eastern Indonesia, according to police and locals on Wednesday ( Aug 21 ), and villagers later recovered her body parts.

Indonesia is home to a number of crocodile types that frequently attack and destroy people.

After searching for oysters on Tuesday morning, Halima Rahakbauw, 54, discovered the turtle swimming in a valley in Wali town on the Maluku islands.

Rahakbauw’s ally, Rustam Ilyas, said relatives and friends started a search when she failed to return home.

The incident was reported to police who killed the snake after they discovered a slipper and a figure part in the valley.

” The people had to cut open the shark’s stomach to remove some of the victim’s system parts”, a local police officer, who requested secrecy as he was never authorised to speak on the subject, told AFP Wednesday.

” The snake was really great, around 4m long”, stranger Ilyas told AFP.

The types could not be identified by the police or the locals.

On Sunday, a 63-year-old metal worker was killed by a snake near a creek on Bangka beach in Sumatra.

In retaliation for the killing of a local gentleman by one of the reptiles, a crowd in Indonesia’s east region of Papua slaughtered nearly 300 crocodiles in 2018.

On the island of Sulawesi in 2019, a scholar was killed after being dragged into its wall by a massive prisoner snake.
