A judge has mandated that the motorcyclist who struck a North Korean visitor at a pedestrian crossing in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi area pay the victim about 240, 000 baht in compensation.
According to Metropolitan Police Bureau ( MPB) commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sayam Boonsom, Dusit Kwaeng Court ruled on Feb 15 that the motorcyclist, identified only as Kwanchai, must compensate the victim, identified only as Yoon, a 68-year-old South Korean citizen, for the injuries he sustained as a result of the accident.
The Kidney Institute Hospital was the site of the injury that two years prior had caused the ophthalmologist’s fatal accident when a bike struck her as she was crossing the road.
In the wake of the crash, which occurred on January 23, Kwanchai was accused of reckless driving, driving without a valid license, operating a car without paying the monthly street tax, and driving without having insurance that covers incident victims.
In total, the judge ordered Kwanchai to give 240, 500 ringgit in remuneration to Yoon, Pol Lt Gen Sayam said. The judge said in its ruling that the volume can be paid in installments of at least 8, 000 ringgit as long as Yoon receives the full sum by September when he is scheduled to leave the region.
According to the MPB captain, Kwanchai was even required to pay a fine of 1,000 baht for each offense he was accused of.
