Crackdown nets 2 foreign criminals

A Turkish national and a Ghanaian nationwide have been detained differently in Phuket.

The Foreign Affairs Division of the Foreign Affairs Ministry notified the company to withdraw a 32-year-old Greek man’s card because he faces an arrest warrant from Turkey for a charge of carrying a rifle in people, according to Pol Maj Wisarut Laiadong, deputy director of Phuket Immigration Office.

The officers claimed that the immigration department received the request on Tuesday at 3.30pm, and that it was later established that the suspect was wanted on a Red Notice issued by Interpol. He even had a second permit issued by Turkey on October 10 of that year for buying, carrying, or presenting weapons and ammunition without authorization, as well as for obtaining or disclosing personal information.

The suspect was detained on Thursday and taken to the Phuket Immigration Bureau while he was awaiting imprisonment.

However, a 37-year-old African man was arrested on Thursday in Thalang region for possessing heroin.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Johnpaul Ifeanyi Duru, according to Pol Capt Thiraphon Nitichat, assistant commander of the Phuket Immigration Police, who spoke to Pol Capt Thiraphon Nitichat monday. After learning that the stranger was selling drugs to various foreigners in the area, authorities raided his occupied home. Officers kept an eye on his behavior until they had sufficient evidence to bring him under arrest.

A police squad knocked on the homeowner’s entrance and arrived. Another officer observed the suspect acting strangely while looking through the screen and moving around the house before opening the door.

Officers detained the homeowner after identifying themselves. There were nine bags containing methamphetamine that had a total mass of 7.2 grams. According to the officers, Mr. Duru acknowledged that the medications were his and that he had ordered them from a foreigner with his name and nationality unknown. About two weeks ago, he past ordered 12 sacks of cocaine. He said he bought it for 2, 000 ringgit per package of 0.8 milligrams. At Bang Tao Beach, the unidentified man gave him the medication.

He resold them for 3, 000 baht per group, leaving just nine packages that the officers had seized. He was taken to Thalang Police Station after being charged with processing a Category 2 opioid drug for sales.
