CP tycoon’s wife passes away at 83

Khunying Tawee Chearavanont, the wife of billionaire Dhanin Chearavanont of the Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, passed away at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok on Wednesday. She was 83.

His Majesty the King assigned Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to provide the water for her funeral bathing rites.

Khunying Tawee was born Tawee Wattanalikit on Feb 25, 1940. She and Mr Dhanin married in 1962 and had three sons and two daughters: Varnnee, Soopakij, Narong, Suphachai and Tipaporn.

Khunying Tawee played a key role in promoting Buddhism, supporting education for poor youths, and helping people via the Dhanin Tawee Cheravanont Foundation and other charities.

She received the Outstanding Thai Woman award in 2017 from HRH Princess Sirindhorn. Her funeral rites will be held from today to July 5.
